Restrictions on changing Names on iCloud Email

While iCloud allows you to get creative with your email name, there are some characters you cannot use. You can change the name on an iCloud email to a personal brand name, nickname, or anything as long as it doesn’t contain the following characters:

  • Colon (:)
  • Smaller than sign (<)
  • Greater than sign (>)
  • At sign (<)
  • Double quotation marks (“)

These are special characters that have various meanings in your email. You cannot change your Apple ID to an email address created within the last 30 days. You’ll get an error asking you to try again later. You’re not also allowed to use an email address associated with a different Apple ID. However, Apple allows you to have unique names for each alias email address.
