Configuring the Java Proxy (TCP/IP Redirector)

Overview

The TCP/IP Redirector's main task is to establish a connection to the host via the WWW server, which is used for the data transport. It is a component of HOBLink J-Term and can be configured in the Administration Tool of HOBLink J-Term

The TCP/IP stack works with reserved ports. This requires the flexibility to change the port mapping of the hosts, which access the same port (Port Mapper function).

A TCP/IP Redirector is recommended for security reasons and is the only way, to exclude direct access to the host. Direct access to the host allows unrestricted read and write attributes to all connections which are made using the TCP/IP address.

A TCP/IP Redirector is obligatory for hosts that are protected by fire walls. The host is only accessible via the TCP/IP Redirector. This also applies to browsers, which do not support signed Java applets and therefore only allow attachment to the WWW server via a TCP/IP redirection function.

Other benefits:

  • Encryption is available
  • Executing traces

Usage

To configure the TCP/IP Redirector log on to the HOBLink J-Term Control and choose "TCP/IP Redirector".

Add

Allows you to create a new host configuration, which is added to an existing configuration list. To do this the dialog box TCP/IP Redirector - Add configuration opens.

SSL/TLS security is only available with the software "HOBLink Secure". Fur further information contact one of our HOB branch offices.

  • Enable Tracing
Protocols all communication data in a file, which is helpful to diagnose errors once problems occur.
  • Trace File
Enter path and name of the trace file, or use the browse function to select an existing file, which wil be overwritten by the current data.
