HOB TN5250(E) Gateway

The HOB TN5250(E) Gateway is available as an add-on for the products HOBLink 5250 and HOBLink J-Term. It allows the HOBLink 5250 and HOBLink J-Term terminal emulations to access AS/400 servers via TCP/IP, even though the AS/400 servers are located in an SNA network.

The Advantages:

  • The PCs do not have to be directly connected to the SNA network. The connection can be made via a TCP/IP network, e.g. over the Internet.
  • No TCP/IP is needed on the host.
  • It is not necessary to install SNA clients on the client PCs, minimizing the need for on-site support.

How It Works:

The "IBIPGW06" HOB TN5250(E) Gateway Extension is installed on an NT server. The PCs and the NT server communicate via the TN5250(E) protocol.

A subsystem must be installed on the NT server that makes the data available via APPC to the SNA network.  Possible subsystems include Microsoft SNA Server, IBM eNetwork Communications Server or HOB SNA Stack.
