HOBLink Terminal Edition - 3270, 5250 and VT525 Terminal Emulation with X11 Connectivity and Central Administration

HOBLink Terminal Edition is a modular software suite that offers your enterprise more for your investment. You can tailor this user-friendly emulation to your exact needs, choosing 3270, 5250 and/or VT52 to VT525 emulation, HOB Enterprise Access for central administration and configuration, and HOBLink Secure for encryption of communication data. Any emulation you choose provides easy-to-use, centralized session management.

Product Highlights

Single Point of Administration 

With HOB Enterprise Access the administrator can centrally manage all users and configuration data. In order to simplify user management – especially for large installations – the users are displayed in a tree structure and can be organized in groups as needed. All user settings are transferable from the root tree to the groups and are then inherited by the users in each group. The result is a significant reduction in administration as compared to the task of configuring users individually. 

HOB Enterprise Access 

HOB Enterprise Access can be used for central administration and configuration not only of the HOBLink Terminal Edition but also for other HOB products: HOBLink J-Term, HOBLink X11 and HOBLink JWT. In combination with these products, HOB Enterprise Access provides you with access to all mission-critical data and applications.

All Settings at a Glance 

Configuration options are clearly displayed in a single dialog box, allowing administrators and users to make settings easily and intuitively. The administrator can save any set of options as a "scheme” which he then makes available to specific users or groups. In this way, the administrator can maintain complete control of all user configurations and relieve users of having to deal with related technical details.

Functionality Identical to HOBLink J-Term 

HOBLink Terminal Edition and HOBLink J-Term, the HOB terminal emulation in Java, contain the same functions and are identical in product design. The big advantage here is that users who work with both versions (e.g. HOBLink Terminal Edition at the office and HOBLink J-Term on the road), as well as users who want to migrate, do not have to adjust to two different programs and therefore require no extra training. Additionally, both products can access the same central configuration data. 

Uniform Look and Feel 

The HOBLink Terminal Edition offers a uniform look and feel for all three terminal emulation programs. During development of the programs, intuitive, easy handling was always given a high design priority. The advantage is that minimal training is required, especially for users who are already familiar with one of the emulations. 

Encryption with HOBLink Secure 

Available as an option, HOBLink Secure encodes (RC2, RC4, DES, 3DES, AES) and compresses (V42.bis) all data bi-directionally between host and PC. As a German manufacturer, HOB is not subject to the restrictions of the US government, such as the submission of encryption keys, etc.

Graphical User Interfaces Replace “Green Screens” 

To ensure a user-friendly and familiar look and feel, HOBLink Terminal Edition automatically displays 3270 and 5250 applications with a graphical user interface (GUI-on-the-fly). This function can be turned on or off, as needed, even during a running session. 

Enhancement for Host Applications 

With the optional HOBLink FaceLifter, you can further enhance your emulation windows. This program lets you create GUI applications that go far beyond the normal host functionality. For more detailed information, please see the HOBLink FaceLifter product brochure. 

Automatic Connection Attempts 

When a connection setup is unsuccessful, HOBLink Terminal Edition waits the configured time period and then repeats the connection attempt. This process is continued until a connection is successfully established. 

Smart Connection Feature 

Up to 5 different gateways or connection types can be configured for a single PC-to-Host connection. If the connection type with the highest priority is not available, HOBLink Terminal Edition automatically makes successive attempts to attach to the host using another configured connection type. The benefit: there is no need to modify an existing configuration over and over again.

Data Compression

HOBLink Terminal Edition offers run-length compression without additional compression software on the host. Moreover, you also have the option of using HOBLink Secure, which offers V42.bis compression in addition to encryption. With this solution it’s possible to save a considerable amount of time and money. A tab box in the program clearly displays the effective compression achieved. 

Password Encryption for Macros 

Passwords used in recorded macros are encrypted. A password-protected macro can be executed only on the originator's PC – it will not run on any other machine.

Keeping You Informed 

A wealth of information is provided for you in the “Connection Information” dialog box – the result of support-oriented product planning. Users can provide crucial debug data to the administrator without his being "on-site." This cuts support costs and allows you to utilize your staff more efficiently.

Printing via TCP/IP without a Gateway 

Printing via TCP/IP connections normally requires a gateway. Not with HOBLink Terminal Edition. In combination with HOBCOM (installed on the host), it supports TCP/IP printing, including central print control: without requiring an additional gateway.
