With HOBLink VPN, data can be transmitted with complete privacy – no transmissions made through the HOBLink VPN tunnel can be seen by third parties – regardless of the access type. HOBLink VPN securely integrates all participants, employees, partner firms, suppliers, etc., into the enterprise business processes. HOBLink VPN is scaleable, flexible and interoperable with any other VPN solution based on IPSec (RFC 2401). 

HOBLink VPN is a modular security solution and a component of the HOBLink Connectivity product family. The central component of this product family is "HOB Enterprise Access" (HOB EA), which is a central platform for the configuration, management, and administration of all HOBLink software products. 

HOBLink VPN gateways and clients provide the user with the modules VPN Configuration, VPN Management, and VPN LogView. If HOB Enterprise Access is already installed on your system, the new modules are simply "plugged in."

Another HOBLink VPN component is the "HOBLink Security Manager," which is used to generate X.509 certificates

HOBLink VPN is a very flexible secure communications solution. The same software is installed whether you intend to use HOBLink VPN as a gateway or as a client, the difference lies solely in the configuration. The roaming function makes possible operations without fixed IP addresses, thus enabling you to use inexpensive Internet connections. HOBLink VPN provides you with "end-to-end" security, regardless of whether you are deploying it in a LAN, W-LAN, or over the Internet. Additional savings potential can be realized through the provider-independent character of HOBLink VPN: simply select the most cost-effective provider in the area – no matter who the provider is, your communications retain the level of security you have selected! 

Features

As a security solution for IP-based network communications, whether over the Internet, Intranet, LAN or W-LAN, HOBLink VPN is a VPN Gateway/Client solution with additional firewall features, such as packet filtering and Network Address Translation (NAT), that provides you with the security you need:

• Authenticity: by using pre-shared keys, DSA and RSA digital signatures, HOBLink VPN guarantees that the messages you receive actually originated from the source they claim.

• Integrity: Both the Authentication Header (AH) and Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) IPSec protocols can use either or both of the hash methods MD5 and/or SHA 1 to provide data-manipulation and replay detection. Thus you are ensured that the message you receive has not been altered in any way, and you are protected from denial- of- service attacks.

• Confidentiality: Using IPSec's Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP), HOBLink VPN ensures strong encryption, guaranteeing that no one besides the sender and the intended recipient can read the communication. With HOBLink VPN, you can choose between the encryption methods AES, DES, 3DES, BLOWFISH, CAST, RC4, DES_IV32 and DES_IV64.

Other important HOBLink VPN features are:

• Full implementation of the IPSec standards AH/ESP and Tunnel-Mode in accordance with RFC 2401 pp.

• Support of certificates, digital signatures (Security Manager, PKI)

• Complete control of all IP data traffic by packet control rules

• Configurable control of services/ports

• Firewall functionality with HOBLink VPN Client implementation

• Support for roaming Internet access (dynamic IP address)

HOB Enterprise Access: a Single Point of Administration

HOB Enterprise Access (HOB EA) is a product that grants maximum flexibility to achieve a single point of administration for all HOB EA applications. This type of administration requires the installation of HOB Enterprise Access (included in the scope of delivery of HOBLink VPN) as a server component for the HOB EA applications on a computer acting as a server PC. 

This server PC (the EA Server) stores the user settings of all HOB EA applications in a database to which all users must log on. After users attach to this server PC, the user settings are downloaded via TCP/IP. This settings transfer, as all other HOB EA communications, can also be strongly encrypted at the click of a button. The downloaded user settings make it possible for users to launch the HOB EA applications they have been authorized to use. If you are already using an LDAP database, you can continue to use this for your user administration, as HOB EA fully supports LDAP.

With HOB Enterprise Access the administrator can centrally manage all users and configuration data. In order to simplify user management – especially for large installations – the users are displayed in a tree structure and can be organized in groups as needed. All user settings are transferable via the tree to the groups and are then inherited by the users in each group. The result is a significant reduction in administration as compared to the task of configuring users individually.
