HOB Desktop-on-Demand, a product of the HOB RD VPN software suite, provides you with highly secure remote access to your Windows XP Professional  / Windows Vista workstation via any network, whether the Internet, LAN or WAN. You can access your Windows XP Professional / Windows Vista workstation even if the computer has been shut off.

HOB Desktop-on-Demand is not a managed service; it is a remote computing infrastructure solution that increases protection from data loss or theft, as all data remain in the company / on the target machine, helping ensure Continued Ongoing Business (COB). HOB Desktop-on-Demand is a valuable asset for Business Continuity Planning, for example, in the event of a pandemic or extreme weather conditions, as workers need not physically come into the office to continue working.

When you want to connect to your computer, for example, over the Internet, the HOB WebSecureProxy, a component of HOB Desktop-on-Demand, can remotely boot it. The Wake-on-LAN functionality of Windows XP Professional / Windows Vista makes this possible. The computer only has to be plugged in, other than that, it can be completely shut off - you can turn it on over the Internet. Your computer is still secure from unauthorized access, because no one besides you has the information necessary to perform this task.

Of course, all communications running over HOB Desktop-on-Demand can be strongly encrypted. Strong authentication is also possible. The implementation of the RADIUS protocol enables authentication via the VASCO DigiPass solution as well as other RADIUS servers. The authentication solutions RSA SecurID and Secure Computing Premier Access are also supported.

HOB Desktop-on-Demand is a web-based solution that only requires the client machine, e.g.,  a desktop PC or laptop , to have a Java-enabled browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, Mac Safari, Internet Explorer, etc. As it utilizes a Java applet, there is no need to install anything on the client machine. It doesn't matter which OS the client is running, for example, Windows, Apple, Linux, Unix, etc.; the HOB Desktop-on-Demand Java applet can run on all of them. The client/user doesn't need to have any administration rights to get this access. Supported target machine operating systems are  Windows XP Professional  / Windows Vista with RDP support.
