HOB RD VPN and SAP ERP Systems

1. SAP GUI on a Windows Server

SAP GUI is the client with which users access SAP ERP systems.
In many organizations, the SAP GUI is installed on Windows Remote Desktop Servers. The Java RDP client HOBLink JWT, included in HOB RD VPN, is then used to access this Windows server and, with it, one can work SAP GUI from any location in the world.
This access is SSL-encrypted and authentication is carried out with HOB RD VPN.
Neither administration rights nor any installation on the client machine are required.

2. SAP GUI Locally Installed on the Client, Access via the Universal Client from HOB RD VPN

Onc can also operate the SAP GUI via the Universal Client from HOB RD VPN. The SAP GUI is then locally configured to access the localhost. The SAP GUI data are SSL-encrypted, compressed and sent to the central office.

In HOB RD VPN, two different Universal Clients are integrated as default. One of these is a Java solution and the other is a .NET solution. The SAP GUI can be operated with either one of these.

3. HOB PPP Tunnel

With the PPP Tunnel, a component of HOB RD VPN, the client gets full access to all of the central network's resources.
The exchanged data are encrypted with SSL and thus secure. Optionally, the data can also be compressed.
The SAP GUI can communicate with the SAP ERP solutions server components over the HOB PPP Tunnel.

4. SAP NetWeaver with HOB Web Server Gate

SAP NetWeaver is an application server which is accessed over a browser per HTML. With the Web Server Gate, a component of HOB RD VPN, this HTML datastream can be SSL-encrypted and, as an option, compressed.
Authentication for access to SAP NetWeaver and other internal Web servers is carried out in HOB RD VPN.

5. Printing in SAP Installations

For printing, SAP preferably uses LPD, the Line Printer Daemon protocol. However, it is generally very difficult to print over the Internet using LPD, also for SAP solutions.
Sometimes, dedicated lines are used specifically for printing over LPD, although a DSL connection is more economical and otherwise just as suitable.
HOB solves the problem of LPD printing with the components HOBCOM Universal Server or HOBCOM Host. These can also be deployed in SAP installations.
