HOB RD VPN, The Value-Added VPN

HOB RD VPN stands for Remote Desktop Virtual Private Network. As the name Remote Desktop says, this solution gives to the user a complete desktop, with which he can work with centrally stored enterprise data and applications.

Traditional VPNs encrypt the data packets with the methods IPSec and SSL. Differently from those, HOB RD VPN also includes the connectivity clients, so thaat the user gets a full desktop: That is the added value. The clients in HOB RD VPN are mostly Java Applets. Java can be found today on all client devices.

The goal of HOB RD VPN is to make the client device work like an "out-of-the-box" laptop or desktop PC, i.e., immediately, without any additional installation.

HOB RD VPN requires neither an installation nor administrator rights on the client. Everything is controlled via a Web browser; access is very easy. There are no client-side drivers in HOB RD VPN. Solutions with drivers often cause problems and, therefore, additional costs.

All HOB RD VPN components are optimally co-ordinated with each other, both the client software and the encryption components. The most important client in HOB RD VPN is the RDP client, HOBLink JWT, the Java Windows Terminal.

With this Java RDP client, highly performant access can be made to Windows Servers and clients, i.e., Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

In a modern IT environment one finds not only Windows systems but also Unix/Linux and Apple Macs. With the add-on products X11Gate and MacGate, HOB enables access over the performant RDP protocol to these system's graphical user interfaces.

'With HOB RD VPN, encryption is made using SSL, thus, secure access is also possible in networks using simple and inexpensive components.

HOB RD VPN is highly scalable and is well-suited for very small, as well as very large, installations.

HOB RD VPN contains no hardware, and therefore can be installed and operated on any server and operating system. HOB RD VPN is also available as a complete software appliance. A software appliance means that HOB delivers the complete software, including the operating system, which is installed on blank hardware, or a virtual system.

HOB RD VPN can be optimally integrated into an existing IT infrastructure of any enterprise. HOB RD VPN is not intended for networking branch offices. For this purpose, there is the HOB product HOBLink VPN, an IPSec solution.
