The HOB Type 7 PC Keyboard
The HOB Type 7 PC keyboard is fully compatible with the IBM 122
keyboard which means that the IBM Windows drivers work with the
HOB Type 7 PC-keyboard and vice versa. The markings on the keys
are also identical to those on the IBM 122 keyboard..
HOB includes keyboard drivers for Windows 3.11, Windows 95 (Plug
& Play) and Windows NT, while IBM only includes the keyboard
driver for Windows 3.11.
The HOB PC keyboard driver package also supports the following
keyboards:
- NCP 122
- Memorex Telex
- DCA-IRMA
In addition to these, Cherry and Keytronic also offer IBM compatible
122 keyboards. These keyboards, however, are offered without the
necessary drivers.
The HOB Type 7 PC Keyboard for Windows with Rumba for AS/400
This keyboard operates without any problems with Rumba for AS/400.
Please note: for this purpose it is necessary to use the "HOB
Type 7-PC" keyboard and not the "HOB Type 7-TW"
(Terminal Twinax-Keyboard)! Not all Rumba for AS/400 versions
support a 122 keyboard. The functionality has been successfully
tested for Rumba for AS/400, Version 3.0 Release 1.0.
In the [Keyboard] section of the SYSTEM.INI, the following
entries must be made:
TYPE=4
KEYOARD.DLL=KBDHOBGR.DLL
Certain keys e.g. [Field +], [Field -], [screen up] and [screen
down] can be redefined using Rumba's for AS/400 keyboard
remapping function.
The HOB Type 7 PC Keyboard with Communications Manager (CM/2)
Although OS/2 principally supports 122 keys, meaning that no additional
driver software is necessary, CM/2 only supports the MFII keyboard.
The 3270 emulation functionality of the CM/2 is, however, considerably
limited and according to statements made by IBM, there are no
intentions of improving or further developing it.. The new CM/2
Communications Server from IBM no longer includes am emulation.
But with HOBLink 3270 3.1 for OS/2, help is already on the way.
This HOBLink 3270 emulation should be available around August/September
1996 as a beta test, and be ready for release by October/November.
HOB Type 7 PC Keyboard with Rumba 3270 for the Mainframe
Until recently the HOB PC keyboard did not work together with
Rumba 3270 for the Mainframe. The cause of the problem was the
name of the file KBDHOBGR.DLL which was not being recognized.
Only after renaming the file to KBD122GR.DLL, did the two products
work together without any problems. To avoid any further problems
of this kind in the future, the file has been renamed KBD122GR.DLL.
