Lightweight Remote Access HOBs enhanced Remote Access package, HOBLink SNA Router V.2.1 is to provide increased performance when attaching remote stations to local mainframes Zirndorf, 9. December 1999. Today the Zirndorf located software developers and connectivity experts announced the new release of the software based remote access solution HOBLink SNA Router. Its purpose is to attach remote stations to IBM mainframes in the SNA network. HOBLink SNA Router stand out from the competition due to low value purchase and support of cheap connection types such as ISDN X 31 D Channel. The product aims at organizations maintaining a lot of satellite stations, which need to be attached to local IBM mainframes quickly and without involving high technical investment. The new major features apart from simultaneous TCP/IP and SNA support are the increased number of simultaneous sessions up to 500 that can be run simultaneously with only a minimum resources required. Especially user friendly is the software version provided as a service: in case HOBLink SNA crashes, which is not desirable but sometimes inevitable, the HOBLink SNA Router is automatically reactivated once the server is rebooted. Windows 2000 compatibility is also integrated. At the same time HOBLink SNA Router covers all 32bit Windows platforms. Franz Wiedenmann, Distribution and Marketing Manager at HOB in Zirndorf comments: "High performance paralleled by economy considerations and cutting TCO are the main focus of our solutions. Therefore in the development stages we have focused on the essential functions to provide a resource saving solution. HOBLink SNA Router has successfully passed internal load carrying ability tests: with 150 transactions per second the CPU load of a Pentium II/233 with 128 MB RAM did not exceed a range between 4 to 8%." A further enhancement concerns the security issue: Using the feature "password substitution" the integrated SNA stack avoids transmitting the password as clear text. This guarantees protection for instances, where an eavesdropper listens to the data stream, even by means of a sniffer. The recommended retail price for HOBLink SNA Router for a 10 user version is fixed at app. US $ 1825 including VAT and is available as of now and is available through HOB's widespread net of resellers. Profile HOBLink SNA Router runs on every standard Windows 95/98 or NT/2000 workstation PC - without involving additional server operating system and costly server hardware. Client access for host connection is done via Telnet 3270E or DLC. For logon to the host system HOBLink SNA Router support a.o. the low value protocol of the ISDN X.31 D Channel via CAPI 2.0. Alternatively HOBLink SNA Router also supports connections via SDLC/X.25 using serial adapter or Hayes AutoSync. The supported network topologies are FDDI, Ethernet and Token Ring. A complete Web to Host integration conception in the LAN/WAN environment is offered by HOB when acquiring HOBLink SNA Router coupled with HOB's own PC Host Connectivity solutions HOBLink 3270 and HOBLink J-Term by means of browser as loadable applet - in combination with the Mainframe software HOBCOM for installation on OS/390, MVS, VSE and VM Hosts: HOBCOM provides a.o. selectable data compression and persistent data encryption starting from the client or applet through Host in an encryption key up to 256 bit.
