Hawthorne, NY (January 11, 2012) – The connectivity specialist HOB GmbH & Co. KG has redefined load balancing! The new HOB solution scores especially well with its extended parameters for accessing Windows Terminal Servers that use Remote Desktop Services. For this, HOB RD Selector does not use any middleware. This allows optimized load distribution even in very large server farms. Enterprises can custom-configure HOB RD Selector to get the best out of their IT infrastructure. The advantage: Lower cost and higher performance.
A balanced use of server farms has been a challenge ever since the beginning of client-server computing. Many people, often using mobile devices and at all times, are increasingly accessing enterprise-internal Windows Servers and the data and applications hosted on them. For the best performance, the load on the servers should be evenly distributed. Load balancing provides a good way to control this load. In this way, servers can be used more efficiently, and the number of required servers reduced. This saves cost and administrative effort.
Load balancing, however, isn't all the same: Often, connection requests to servers are simply sent one after the other to the available servers. This procedure, also called round robin, considers neither the existing load of the individual servers nor the type and scope of the incoming request. In this way, less intensive users can coincidentally overload one server while the other servers have excess capacity. The result: Effective work is made more difficult by long response times. Overloading servers also costs time and money, as well endangers corporate data. Hence, stabile servers benefit IT managers: They can concentrate on more important matters.
With HOB RD Selector, HOB has redefined the concept of load balancing: "From many years of experience with large client-server environments, we recognize the weaknesses of conventional products. Therefore, we have developed an improved solution. The result is a load balancing process with extended and granular parameter settings which works without any middleware," explained Klaus Brandstaetter, HOB's CEO.
HOB RD Selector deliberately operates without round robin. It uses the existing potential for optimal load distribution for access to Windows Terminal Servers. 13 individually configurable parameters, such as the number of running processes or disconnected/active sessions ensure the necessary flexibility. Weighting the individual parameters enables a "fine-tuning" to the highest degree.
A parameterized load balancing approach without the use of additional middleware has great advantages: Central "administrative points" that – comparable to a bottleneck – forward the requests to the corresponding, correct server are superfluous. A potential weak spot in the system is thus effectively removed. With HOB RD Selector the existing Microsoft infrastructure can continue to be used. Additional, hardware or gateways are not necessary, compatibility issues become a thing of the past. This soothes your nerves, improves response times and saves cost in two respects: Administrative costs are reduced and existing investments protected. This is also promotes "Green IT."
