Hawthorne, NY (January 25, 2012) – Being able to access business e-mail easily over a smartphone, 24/7, has become a standard desire of both employees and business leaders. IT managers, however, are often less than enthusiastic on this issue, especially when private smartphones are being used. All threats, from A for access without rights to Z for zombie networks have to be eliminated. The question of what happens if your smartphone is lost is also of great importance. Yet, this issue need not cause any stress. The connectivity specialist HOB GmbH & Co. KG has a new software solution for this complex problem: HOBLink Mobile, an app for the iPhone or iPad, which can fulfill easily and with the highest security the desire for 24/7 and location-independent availability of e-mail and other enterprise resources.
Smartphones have become a part of the everyday experience. Since their introduction, more than 150 million of them have been sold. It is little wonder then, that the popular smartphones are also being used for work. The trend towards integrating mobile devices such as the iPhone into the workaday world opens new horizons for enterprises as well as their employees. Handheld mobile devices are especially predestined for accessing business e-mail. Many employees have already adopted the "always-connected" mentality and want flexible 24/7 access to their contact data, e-mail or calendars.
At some time in the near future, about 25% of all workers will lose their smartphones, on which sensitive enterprise data or access to them are found. This estimate from current studies is an uncomfortable thought if the enterprise has taken no appropriate security measures for such an event. Secured, or encrypted, data transmission is already provided for in many companies. The question of how one can protect data when a smartphone is lost or stolen is, however, more difficult. Existing solutions, for example, remote deletion of data, are time-consuming and inconvenient. Even worse, by the time a remote deletion is carried out, valuable data can already have gotten into the wrong hands, especially if the device's loss is not noted and/or reported immediately.
HOB has recognized this security risk and offers with HOBLink Mobile secure access to centrally stored enterprise data via iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – at any time and from anywhere. HOBLink Mobile reliably prevents illegal access to enterprise data in the event the smartphone is lost or stolen. How does this work? All data, for example contact data, calendar entries e-mail text or attachments are never loaded to the smartphone, and are never saved to it. All data remain securely on the enterprise server. Therefore, the often demanded possibility of remote deletion becomes obsolete.
HOBLink Mobile also provides a simple restoration of the last open session. This way, even if a session is unexpectedly interrupted, no important data are lost. HOBLink Mobile ensures optimal bandwidth utilization and significantly reduces connection times. This increases work efficiency. The solution's central component makes this possible: The HOBCOM Universal Server, installed in the corporate network. It ensures the secure data exchange between the mobile client and the Microsoft Exchange Server. All data are centrally and securely stored here. HOBLink Mobile also ensures that the entire data stream is encrypted.
