Zirndorf based HOB debuts presenting its new development HOBLink JWT The Java application also opens the door for Non-Microsoft Frontends to Windows application on MS Windows NT Server 4.0 - Terminal Server Edition Zirndorf, 26. July 1999. The software designers and connectivity experts at HOB announce their new product HOBLink JWT = Java Windows Terminal. With this product HOB intends to expand its range in software to the Windows NT Connectivity market. HOBLink JWT is a Java application which can be optionally installed locally or on a Web server. With HOBLink JWT HOB is the first software developer providing a software, that allows all clients -Windows as well as NON-Microsoft Frontends, such as Macintosh, UNIX, NCs and Handheld PCs -accessing and editing Windows applications, under MS Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition based on the Microsoft RDP protocol (Remote Desktop Protocol). This ensures that the central administration and Multiple User functionality of the Terminal Server Edition can be entirely exploited in enterprises with a heterogeneous environment. Klaus Brandstätter, founder of HOB and General Manager of the development department comments the product not lacking pride: With HOBLink JWT we are the pioneers to make platform independent access to Windows applications come true with RDP. Up to date enterprises had to use costly supplementary Server software. This is not required with HOBLink JWT. The only requirement besides the hardware is a Java Virtual Machine, which means a Browser". RDP - The Remote Desktop Protocol is part of the Windows Terminal Server and represents its crucial component. It allows the WTS client to attach to the network and emulates the Windows GUI. Up to date this was reserved to Microsoft Clients. For platform independent access from Non-MS Clients to WTS applications HOBLink JWT supports the "low" and "medium" levels of the security mechanisms featured by the MS Windows Terminal Servers. These include a Client-to-Server (RC4) 40-bit encryption or encryption of data traffic on both sides. HOBLink JWT is available through HOB's wide spread net of distributors as of September 99. The price recommendation is approximately $ 185 for each respective client license. In the past HOB had focused on "PC to IBM-, UNIX and DEC computers", and provided software solutions building a persistent bridge to different data processing environments. Since the successful introduction of HOBLink J-Term HOB has become a decisive player in the Web-to-Host Connectivity market.
