Open Sesame The advanced version of the Mainframe optimizing and integration software HOBCOM reduces access procedures to host applications and simplifies print output Zirndorf, 15. May 1999. The enterprise HOB announces the immediate release of the advanced version of HOBCOM - IBM Mainframe optimizing and integration software for S/390 and S/370 systems. HOBCOM now features a "Single-Sign-On" function: This feature allows to reduce the usual login procedures, which are required for access to the respective host applications, at one strike to a single procedure. After the user has logged on to the host and authenticated by specifying user name and password, the access to further host applications is controlled in the background within little time. HOBCOM is also to provide more flexibility with regard to print output by supporting the SMB protocol (Server Message Block), as part of Windows, DOS and OS/2: By controlling SMB through HOBCOM host data can printed out via NetBios and TCP/IP from every printer station within the net, without an additional software such as an emulation being required. An additional software, however, accounts for security and cost reduction when it comes down to transferring data. Coupled with HOB's emulation software HOBLink 3270 or HOBLink J-Term the software permits complete encryption of the entire data stream between client and host. A complex data selection procedure cuts the transfer expenses down to 90%. HOBCOM is installed on the host in systems with S/390 and S/370 architecture under the operating systems VSE, MVS or VM. It enables optimizing the host operation in conjunction with LAN and WAN PCs, terminals and NCs. Among others HOBCOM features numerous tools for structure specific control, administration and automating work procedures that involve access to host applications.
