HOB, Inc. Introduces a New
Software Solution
for Blade Server Technology
Blade servers equipped with the HOB Blade Balancer enable you to use
single-user solutions in a multi-user Windows environment.
Cadolzburg, Germany (December 3,
2003) - HOB, Inc., a leading provider of Java-based connectivity
technology, today announced the release of the HOB Blade Balancer solution,
a component of the HOB WebSecureProxy and an enhancement to HOBLink JWT,
HOB's Windows Terminal Server client. The HOB Blade Balancer enables
HOBLink JWT to access more than just Terminal Servers; using the Blade
Balancer, HOBLink JWT can access single-user solutions like Windows XP
Professional. Hereby, the solution uses the Microsoft standard
"Remote Desktop Protocol" (RDP). Enterprises are now using
HOBLink JWT, equipped with the HOB Blade Balancer, to implement some of
their new remote access projects with blade server farms instead of
relying solely on the classic Windows Terminal Server technology.
The WebSecureProxy is a
component of the HOB SSL encryption software HOBLink Secure, and is
configured via XML. It is highly recommended to use encryption for remote
connections over the Internet.
The market for blade server solutions is still relatively young; HOB,
however, has already developed a powerful blade server solution. First,
HOB solved the problem of making an idle blade equipped with Windows XP
available to other users. To do this, the HOB Blade Balancer was developed.
This software reports the blade as being free when no user is currently
logged on or no disconnection has taken place. The last is important,
because if a user has been inadvertently disconnected from the blade,
e.g., due to a faulty communication line, the HOB Blade Balancer detects a
disconnect and the HOB solution reserves this blade for a reconnect to the
same user. This way, if a blade is in use, the user cannot be "kicked
off" by another user attempting to logon, and an idle blade can be
freed for the next user, thereby getting maximum performance from your
blade server farm and Windows XP.
One of the great advantages of this solution is for companies employing
their own software, which they designed for a single-user environment.
When one of these companies switches over to server-based computing, it
could be faced with a tremendous cost factor: Since many single-user
applications simply cannot be used in a multi-user environment, they would
have to be rewritten or, possibly, replaced entirely with new software,
incurring a high cost. HOBLink JWT, used together with the WebSecureProxy containing the HOB Blade Balancer, eliminates the need to redevelop
these applications, as this solution from HOB enables single-user
applications to be used in multi-user environments. This way, companies
can continue using their legacy software, saving not only the cost of
procuring or developing new software, but also those costs associated with
training employees on new or changed programs.
This new solution from HOB, Inc. is just one of their many innovative products
developed for a growing market.
