HOB RD VPN: Secure Remote Access Plus Web-Server-Gate

Cadolzburg, Germany, 14 July 2006: HOB, Inc., the German manufacturer and developer of high-quality security and connectivity software, today announced that HOB RD VPN, the cross-platform connectivity and security software solution, has been enhanced with the addition of the HOB WSP Web-Server-Gate, enabling the HOB RD VPN solution to provide secure remote access to web servers located within the company LAN.

HOB RD VPN's core security component, HOB WebSecureProxy, takes care of client authentication, certificate and token management, as well as other security-relevant tasks. With the addition of the Web-Server-Gate, it can now also securely forward incoming web browser queries to the appropriate internal web server. Communications between the client-side browser and HOB WebSecureProxy are carried out via HTTPS. This encryption ensures a high level of security for sensitive communications, e.g., time logging for mobile workers, order placement or stock queries from external business partners, and invoices or delivery notes from external suppliers.

Also, HOB RD VPN has a Universal Client to enable communication between locally installed applications on PC's, laptops, or mobile devices (xDA's such as Pocket PC, PDA, MDA, etc.) with central servers (e.g., a mail server). The Universal Client utilizes high-performance data compression based on the application protocol layer, not, as does IPSec, based on the packet layer.

This is a big advantage for e-mail applications such as MS Outlook^®. Other integrated HOB clients provide you with access to legacy applications, for example, via the 3270, 5250, and 9750 protocols.
