Release Information HOBLink 3270 4.2 - May 98

This issue gives a survey of all new features of HOBLink 3270:

Connection with AutoSync-Modem for SDLC / X.25

The benefits of this connection type:

  • Supports SDLC and X.25
  • Connection is supported by every analog telephone line
  • No additional hardware or serial adapter is required, simple connection using COM1 - COM4
  • No additional fees as charged for X.32 are due
  • Multi Host Connection feature for X.25 (maximum is 32 host connections)
  • Fits best for notebooks / laptops via PCMCIA modem
  • Data transfer rates of 9600 bps or 14400 bps, depending on the modem
  • NUI or Reverse Charging can be optionally set for X.25 or X.32 connection

The use of this connection type, however, is restricted to Windows NT, Service Pack 3 only and requires a modem that fully supports AutoSync mode.

Apply HOBLink Tracer data to "Demo Host" connection type

After executing an internal HOBLink QEL Trace you can select the conversion to Demo Host format. This converted trace file can be loaded in HOBLink 3270 using the connection type "Demo Host".

This function is useful to train employees in host applications without existing physical connection to a host. Simply execute a trace for all desired actions in the host application. Then convert the generated file into Demo Host format. Now you can load this file using the connection type "Demo Host". That's the easy way to train employees in host applications "off-line" - i.e. without host access.

Lotus 123 format for clipboard data

The range of selectable formats for clipboard data has been extended by Lotus 123 format. This completes the list of desirable clipboard formats.

New setting "IND$FILE" for File Transfer

Usually data in the file transfer are getting converted using the selected Code Page and on the host IND$FILE converts them from ASCII to EBCDIC. This is causing trouble if the code page used by IND$FILE is not available in their original format, but were manually modified. The result: all modified characters are being incorrectly converted to EBCDIC.

If you enable "IND$FILE", you can avoid this effect. The File Transfer immediately uses the IND$FILE code page and converts the data from EBCDIC to ASCII as usual.

Send Clear Key within the File Transfer

The File Transfer dialog box includes a new option to explicitly send a clear key command, which is especially recommended for VM/CMS.

New keyboard languages

HOBLink 3270 features an extended list for keyboard languages. Newly implemented languages are:

  • Swedish / Finnish
  • Danish
  • Norwegian

QEL Tracer / API Tracer at one glance

The QEL Tracer has been revised and merged with the API Tracer to appear as the "Internal HOBLink Tracer", component of the "Administration Tools".

Using less resources

HOBLink 3270 handles system resources more carefully than ever and profits from it with increased work performance and processing speed.

Session Administrator: Enable / disable COM (OLE) support

The COM function can now be controlled by the Session Administrator. If it is not required, OLE can be disabled and thus reduces the used system resources remarkably.
