This short summary is designed to give you a quick overview of
all that is new with the HOBLink 3270 2.1, Release 16.07.96 as
compared to its predecessor Release of 06.03.96.
Connection type SDLC
HOBLink 3270 2.1 now offers SDLC connections thereby opening new
horizons for comfortable data processing for SDLC users using
HOBLink 3270. With an HOB SDLC adapter and a modem you can now
easily establish a connection to the host..
Connection type X.25 via ISDN-D-Channel
HOBLink 3270 2.1 can now also be configured as an X.25 connection
type for an ISDN-D-channel.
Prerequisites
Euro-ISDN-Connection
the "X.25 im D-Kanal" protocol must be switched
on by the Telekom
an appropriate ISDN-Adapter (CAPI Version 2.0)
Advantages
lower monthly base fees as compared to a Datex-P main connection
no charges are made based on connection time
several terminals (normally a maximum of 4) can operate concurrently
using one S0 connection (for example in a branch office
making a gateway superfluous)
both B channels can be used additionally without limitation
. For example , for telephone and faxes
ISDN adapters cost less to purchase than X.25 adapters, in
particular when a passive adapter is to be used
an ISDN adapter can be used concurrently for other connections
using one of the B channels, for example to access the mailbox
A cost comparison of the monthly fees
X.25 via ISDN-D-Channel
Datex-P-10H(with 9.600 bit/s)
monthly charge46 DM
X.25 via D Channel89 DM
access to the Datex-P-Network85 DM
total: 220 DMDM 470
Disregarding the once-only connection fees and the X.25 volume
charges (the same as for Datex-P 10H) , the monthly charges are
clearly 50% lower than the fees charged for a Datex-P connection.
Connection type TN 3270
The dialog field for this type of connection has been completely
revised and enhanced. It has become common practice to access
the gateway not only with a complex address, but with a name that
is easy to remember. We have already taken this possibility into
account. HOBLink 3270 also supports the extended TN 3270 protocol
with optional resources. Host printing is also supported by this
type of connection. .
Connection type MS SNA-Server
All information pertaining to the MS SNA Server type of connection
can be displayed in the index card Information of the dialog
field Info über Verbindung.
Connection type NetWare for SAA
For this type of connection, you can configure a Hot Standby Server.
This server will then be automatically accessed whenever a connection
to the defined primary server cannot be established..
New Display Options for the Connection Type IEEE 802.2 LAN
The MAC address will be displayed in the index card Information
of the dialog field Info about the connection.
Display LU-Name and LU Application Name
Displays the host's name for the session as well as the name of
the application to which you are connected in the Windows caption
bar.
Copy append / Insert next
Data that has already been copied to the copy buffer can be appended
to by using the copy append function. If the content of
the buffer exceeds a screen panel when appending, you can use
the Insert next function to insert the data in smaller
portions until the complete data has been entered into the buffer.
ZIPPRINT - a VisualBasic Program for Uncomplicated Host Printing
This program allows you to easily print host files. The program
first executes a file transfer of the host files, unnoticed by
the user, and then creates a temporary PC file that is deleted
immediately following the printing.
New CapsLock-Logic
The Caps Unlock function has been changed. Instead of using a
combination of keys together with the [Shift] key, the unlock
function can now be carried out by simply pressing and then releasing
the [Shift] key.
Route Print Output to a File
This function sends the printer output of a host document to a
file rather than sending it directly to a printer. If the file
numbering function is switched on, you can assign a file name
of up to 5 characters. Each subsequent printer output file will
be assigned this name, a sequential number up to 999 and the file
extension *.PRN. To reroute printer output, the appropriate entry
must be made in the *.HLK profile.
Support of Italian as Keyboard Language
HOBLink 3270 supports Italian as a language.
The conversion program for upgrading macros from HOBLink 3270
1.1b to Version 2.1 is no longer needed.
