Cadolzburg, Germany, January 17, 2002. HOB, a leading German connectivity software developer, today announced that it would begin delivery of a new version of its server-based computing solution HOBLink JWT. HOBLink JWT 2.3 allows access to applications running on Windows Terminal Servers for Windows clients as well as for Unix/Linux, Mac OS and OS/2 front-ends.
The outstanding feature in this version of HOBLink JWT is the integration of the optional HOB WTS XPert Module, which equips HOBLink JWT with the capability for "enhanced Local Drive Mapping" (eLDM). This feature significantly extends the functionality of the existing Windows XP local drive mapping. The HOB solution supports not only local hard drives and partitions, local CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, mobile storage media (as far as they are supported and known by the local system), but also all other storage media that can be assigned a drive letter. As opposed to the drive mapping integrated in Windows XP, it is possible here to set write and read rights for individual drives and to combine rules for rights, giving each rule a specific priority. It is also possible to map local directories (folders). The Windows 2000 Terminal Server with the HOB WTS XPert Module installed as well as the server installation of HOBLink JWT are prerequisites for enhanced Local Drive Mapping.
In combination with HOB Enterprise Access, which HOB introduced last year, all users can be centrally managed from a single point of administration. The LDAP support included in HOB Enterprise Access integrates all LDAP servers as well as meta-directories that support LDAP as a de facto standard.
Klaus Brandstätter, company founder and director of development, emphasizes the investment protection an enterprise acquires when it decides for HOBLink JWT. Brandstätter remarked, "It was important for us to integrate interfaces to all LDAP servers on the market. This gives the company the necessary flexibility to use HOBLink JWT optimally in any LDAP environment."
Furthermore, the licensing policy for HOBLink JWT was expanded to accommodate the needs of a broad range of companies. At 50 licenses or more, HOB is offering its customers so-called XPert licenses. For an additional sum of about € 116 incl. VAT per user, this license includes the Application Publishing and the enhanced Local Drive Mapping modules. Further modules are being prepared. HOB Enterprise Access, which offers many functions besides LDAP, costs € 46.40 incl. VAT per user.
HOBLink JWT "Starter Packs" have been introduced for smaller installations. These packs of 50 client licenses may only be purchased once and cost € 5,742. The HOBLink JWT Enterprise Starter Pack with 50 licenses including
HOB Enterprise Access for central client administration can be acquired for € 6,902 incl. VAT. The prices for the optional Application Publishing and Local Drive Mapping modules are dependent on the number and power of server processors. The Application Publishing module costs between € 552 and € 1,720 incl. VAT, while the eLDM is priced at
€ 2,208 and € 6,880 incl. VAT.
