HOB Introduces Java-based Database Query Tool

Cadolzburg, Germany, November 5, 2001. HOB, the German Connectivity expert and software developer, announced today that it would begin immediate delivery of its new Java database query tool, “J-DBrowser”. The software was first presented in public this fall at the Systems trade show in Munich, Germany. J-DBrowser allows for generating SQL queries for all DB2 databases. Furthermore, by using HOBLink connect additionally, any other DB Management Systems accessible over ODBC can be queried.

Franz Wiedenmann, Executive Manager at HOB for Sales and Marketing, is pleased. He commented: “J-DBrowser is an important addition to our product line developed for database access. As a special service to our existing customers as well as to provide extra value for new customers, J-DBrowser will be bundled at no extra charge with HOBLink J-DRDA, our JDBC driver; the package offers comparable functionality to the leading database query tools.”

J-DBrowser is a user-friendly database query tool with a graphical user interface. It is based on JDBC and requires JRE 1.2 (Java Runtime Environment) or higher or Java Swing in addition to the JDBC driver. Database queries can be generated, stored and run with a few mouse clicks in the easy-to-use GUI. In addition, J-DBrowser supports the conventional entry of complex SQL commands, whereby J-DBrowser provides all the tools the administrator needs to bundle and save complex queries into batch routines (running in batch mode). J-DBrowser also supports “silent” mode operation, in which stored database queries are executed automatically based on pre-defined parameters that may, for example, include information about the location of the database and file. J-DBrowser additionally allows for saving the query results automatically in pre-defined target files. A further significant feature is support for the CSV format, which is compatible with any of today's popular applications. Thus, it is easily possible to transfer and integrate the results into applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, etc.), and conversely, to transfer tables edited in these applications from CSV format back to the database.
