HOB launches a new migration and application software solution

Cadolzburg, Germany, October 8, 2001. HOB, an international leader in the development of Connectivity software, announced today the release of its “all-in one” software administration solution – HOB Enterprise Access. The software was premiered in March of this year at the CeBIT tradeshow in Hanover, Germany.

The software solution consists of various modules developed for the 32-bit Windows as well as the Java environments and encompasses components for servers as well as client computers. HOB Enterprise Access provides identical user interfaces for all software components and clients equipped with Web and Windows-based emulations, providing transparent access to applications and data on any server, corporate-wide, for users in the Intranet/Internet as well as for partners in an Extranet.

HOB Enterprise Access provides the system administrator complete support for “single point of administration” for all software components needed to access server systems. A management tool installed on a cross-platform basis handles the central storage of all user-related settings. HOB also guarantees compatibility to other administration servers by supporting the LDAP interface (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). The only requirement for using HOB Enterprise Access is a Java Virtual Machine.

Klaus Brandstätter, founder of HOB and head of development, commented, “HOB Enterprise Access offers enterprises the unique possibility of integrating any application and data – including legacy data from existing SNA networks – into modern Internet and Intranet structures. We offer a ‘soft’ migration to Web-to-host technologies based on a solid, cost-effective foundation for the whole enterprise. Within this framework, it’s only natural that this solution as well as each individual module have the same user interface, independent of whether they are based on Java or 32-bit Windows.”

With HOBLink Terminal Edition and HOBLink J-Term, HOB Enterprise Access enables Web-based and Windows-based access to all data and applications on IBM mainframes, AS/400 and Unix/DEC host systems. During the course of this year, software modules for HOB Enterprise Access will be added to the solution one after the other. To enable smooth integration into existing system architectures, the software supports all standard interfaces such as OLE, DCOM, DDE, OHIO and EHLLAPI. The solution can also be expanded to include HOBLink Secure, the cryptography software with strong encryption and client authentication providing the customer with “no holes” security for mission-critical enterprise data. Additionally, HOB Enterprise Access is equipped with a Proxy Server.
