Zirndorf, Germany, February 1, 2001. HOB, a leading software developer in the Connectivity field, today announced that it will launch an enterprise-wide portal solution, HOBLink Enterprise J-Portal, in the spring of this year. With this portal, HOB is primarily targeting large and medium-sized enterprises with a heterogeneous client and server environment.
The solution combines the portal component with a number of software products in Java and 32-bit Windows from the HOBLink software family. The HOBLink Enterprise J-Portal provides corporate-wide access to applications and data on any server for users in the Intranet/Internet, as well as for partners in an Extranet. At the same time, the software offers system managers a single point of administration and central storage of all user-related settings via a single management tool, which is installed on a cross-platform basis. HOB also guarantees compatibility to other administration servers by supporting the LDAP interface (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). The only requirement for using the portal is a Java Virtual Machine.
Patrick Oliver Graf, Director of Marketing and Product Management at HOB, commented: Due to its modularity, the HOBLink Enterprise J-Portal offers enterprises an optimum tool for integrating all of their applications and data in a heterogeneous client platform environment. Furthermore, we build the customer a bridge for migrating to Web-to-Host technology by giving him a uniform configuration option for the entire enterprise; the result is a reduction in costs. A pleasant side-effect is, that the key products in the portal solution - regardless of whether they are Java or 32-bit Windows - all have the same user interface combined with comparable functionality."
In the first phase, the portal includes Java-based and Windows-based access to all data and applications on the following platforms: IBM Mainframe, AS/400, UNIX/DEC and Windows Terminal Server, (native or CITRIX MetaFrame). The software supports all the standard commercial interfaces such as OLE, DCOM, DDE, OHIO and EHLLAPI, allowing problem-free integration into an existing system architecture. Optionally, this solution can be supplemented with the HOBLink Secure cryptography software for strong encryption and client authentication providing comprehensive security for enterprise data.
In the third quarter of this year, the portal will be expanded to include Siemens RM Hosts and HP 3000/9000. In addition, on the medium term, the security level will be raised in future versions by including support for secure access via smartcard technology.
HOB will debut the software at CeBIT 2001.
