Results - Quick and CompactHOB launches a new release of its ODBC driver, HOBLink DRDA , version 4.1. , for access to DB2 databases.Zirndorf, Germany, December 1, 2000 - HOB, the German Connectivity software specialist, announced that a new release of HOBLink DRDA, its ODBC driver, is available for immediate delivery. HOBLink DRDA version 4.1., which is based on the ODBC standard 3.51 (Open Database Connectivity), provides convenient DB2 data exchange with all ODBC-enabled applications, for example with Microsoft Office (Word, Access and Excel). The software simultaneously supports all commonly used database applications in the business intelligence, data warehousing and ERP sectors. Its just as well-suited for in-house database applications which were programmed, for example, using MS Visual Basic, Visual C/C++, Centura SQL Windows or Delphi Company Specific. The new functions are concentrated mainly on new tools for system administrators and will help make using HOBLink DRDA more cost-effective and more user-friendly. In particular, the middleware must meet the high requirements of large enterprises such as banks and insurance companies. For developers, HOBLink DRDA contains effective tools for adapting ODBC drivers responsible for communication with host databases to home-grown database applications. An overview of whats new: HOBLink DRDA now allows system administrators to pre-configure the maximum permissible amount of data in query results, e.g. to one or two MB. This eliminates the danger of a user making a query which could potentially call up all available data records in the database, thereby causing unnecessary strain on the network as well as needless transmission costs. Moreover, system administrators have the opportunity for the first time to set numerous communication parameters in advance with HOBLink DRDA version 4.1. It contains, for example, IP address, port address, type of connection and DB name. In this way, possible user mistakes can be prevented. New additions include Novell NDS support as well as support for code page 1252 on the host, which includes Euro symbols as well. The column display of the report, with 999 columns, conforms with Microsoft. At the same time, HOBLink DRDA allows up to 100 query criteria. A context menu in the taskbar provides a variety of settings. Also interesting for the developer in this regard is the SQL command progression integrated in HOBLink DRDA. With the display of the activated SQL commands to the database and their detailed return messages, HOBLink DRDA makes it possible to detect and eliminate the weaknesses in the SQL query. Likewise HOBLink DRDA provides data encoding in joint operation with HOBLink Secure SSL 3.0. The Essential Facts About HOBLink DRDAHOBLink DRDA makes it possible to establish links from PCs to DB2 UDB, DB2 for MVS,
DB2/400, DB2/AIX and DB2/NT as well as DB/2 Server for OS/390. At the same time, ODBC is
automatically converted into the typical IBM DRDA protocol using an SNA connection with
APPC subsystem, (e.g. HOBLink SNA Stack, free of charge with HOBLink DRDA). Alternatively,
connection is possible via "native TCP/IP" when accessing DB2/2, DB2/NT or
DB2/MVS or using "IBM AnyNet SNA over TCP/IP"; the latter is available under
AIX, MVS/ESA, OS/2, OS/400 and Windows. For the user, employing HOBLink DRDA as an ODBC driver means that the updating of data can take place directly from familiar Windows applications without employing a local database or learning additional programs. HOBLink DRDA is available in versions for the 16-bit and 32-bit Windows platform, as a 32-bit program under OS/2 native and as16-bit under Win OS/2.
