Printing Over the Web

HOB introduces the new version of HOBLink JWT. Version 2.1 has been expanded to include three new key functions.

Zirndorf, Germany, October 9, 2000. HOB announced today the release of the new version of its innovative Java client for Windows Terminal Servers, HOBLink JWT.

The new features implemented in Version 2.1 focus on support for Microsoft‘s RDP 5 protocol. In this regard, HOBLink JWT (Java Windows Terminal) has been expanded to include functionaltiy for local printing, “cut & paste” and data compression. Effective immediately, the product allows not only for classic network printing but also for output to a local printer. The user can now print from his WTS session to a locally attached printer even if the printer is not defined in the network or known to the Windows Terminal Server. The cut & paste function integrated into the new version makes it possible to copy text from the terminal server session into an application on the local client, and vice versa.

To provide a performance boost over the Internet or via WANs, HOB has also implemented data compression using the MPPC (Microsoft Point-to-Point Compression) protocol. This method, based on Lempel-Ziv, significantly reduces the amount of data transmitted from the Windows Terminal Server to the client.

HOB recently received the “NT 2000 Award for the Best Third-Party Tool for Windows NT/2000” for HOBLink JWT.

Based on the Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), HOBLink JWT allows any client browser-based access to Windows applications under MS Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition as well as Windows 2000 Server (Terminal Services). Virtually any client platform is supported - both Windows and non-Windows front-ends, such as Macintosh, UNIX, NCs and handheld PCs. Besides the client component the software package also includes a server module for load balancing which may be optionally installed.
