HOBLink JWT to Offer More Functionality, More User-Friendliness

The new version of HOBLink JWT will include enhanced RDP5 support, allowing for optimum access to Windows 2000 Servers.

Zirndorf, Germany, September 5, 2000. HOB, the WTS and host connectivity specialist, announced today the upcoming release of HOBLink JWT, Version 2.1, which will be available later this month. This new version of the innovative Java client for Windows Terminal Servers provides enhanced support for Windows 2000 Server functionality based on Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol, V. 5. Chief new features include print support for local printers as well as cut and paste of text and graphics between local and server application sessions.

A Client for All Platforms

HOBLink JWT leverages Java technology to integrate Windows-based applications seamlessly into any platform. Using a standard web browser, any Windows or non-Windows front end - i.e., Mac computers, UNIX and Linux workstations, NCs and handheld PCs - can access any application running on MS Windows NT Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server. HOBLink JWT thus gives users platform-independent, economical, multi-user access to business-critical data and applications across the extended enterprise - whether via the Internet, Intranet or other networks.

One of the important new features implemented in Version 2.1 is local printer support. This function allows the user to print to a locally connected printer from an application running in his remote (server) session. Another useful new function in this version is cut and paste of text from a local application to the remote session and vice versa.

A further key feature of HOBLink JWT is its integrated load balancing technology, which is critical for the formation of server farms. HOB Load Balancing is installed as a separate server component and is included with delivery at no extra charge.

New Addition to the Family

HOB also announced the development of a new member of the HOBLink family, HOBLink UWT (UNIX Windows Terminal), which will be launched later this year. As the name suggests, this product is a software UNIX client which provides multi-user access to Windows NT Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server. The beta 1 phase for HOBLink UWT begins effective immediately. To obtain the beta software for testing, please contact HOB at the address below.
