No Fear of “Flying”

Zirndorf, Germany, July 5, 2000.  HOB announced today the availability of the new version of HOBLink J-Term, its Web-to-Host software. Version 2.3 of HOBLink J-Term has been officially available for purchase since Monday; a free evaluation copy may be downloaded from the HOB web server at http://www.hob.de.

A signficant new addition in this version is the implementation of the OHIO (Open Host Interface Objects) standard interface. With the support of OHIO, third-party manufacturers and developers of e-Business applications can integrate HOBLink J-Term in their own solutions via the common API (Applications Programmer Interface), allowing them access to mainframe or AS/400 data.

Another new added value feature included at no cost is “GUI on-the-fly” support, which allows for fast GUI-fication of the alphanumeric 3270 and 5250 green screens without any manual pre-programming. Host screens are automatically converted to graphical user interfaces as needed. Ideally suited for “in-house use”, GUI on-the-fly lets small companies as well as large enterprises give their mainframe and AS/400 screens an easy-to-use and low-cost Windows look and feel.

For general as well as high-end use, HOB optionally offers HOBLink J-FaceLifter, a development tool in Java which makes more extensive GUI-fication possible. The Developer Kit carries a price tag of approximately 9,000 USD, excluding tax.

As with all of the HOB software solutions, the new version of HOBLink J-Term was developed with an eye on the security aspect. HOB integrated an interface to its HOBLink Secure software, which provides encryption based on SSL V.3.0. The user can choose among different encryption algorithms, such as RC2 with a 40-bit key, RC4 with a 128-bit key, DES with a 56-bit key and 3DES with a 112-bit key.

The price for HOBLink J-Term V.2.3 is based on the number of users; a 10-user license, for example, costs 2,033 USD, excluding tax.
