Java - Where the music playsMaking music with the Host via World Wide Web becomes easy promises the "new edition" of the Web to Host software HOBLink J-Term written in 100% Java code by the German HOB Zirndorf, 21 September 1998. The organization HOB residing in Zirndorf has announced the beta version of HOBLink J-Term V.2.1 - the advanced edition of its successful Java based PC to Host software - for the forth quarter of the year. HOBLink J-Term provides clients world wide access to the host via Internet, Intranet and Extranet. The final release version is scheduled for January 1999, as HOB's management has announced. The "new edition" of the Web to Host connectivity solution HOBLink J-Term V.2.1. has focused on simplifying administration work for applets and host sessions coupled with a comfortable user handling, mainly fully automated. The application has been divided into individual components such as "Administrator, User and Server". HOBLink J-Term V.2.1 now allows a centralized administration of the emulation from a web server, accessible by the administrator via web browser from every work station. Users are divided into three categories with their corresponding rights: Default Users with limited rights, Users with advanced rights and Administrators. The latter can make use of various tools to preconfigure all settings for user or pool specific use. These settings are loaded by the applet as schemes from the respective scheme pools, that include preconfigured connection types, printer settings, Keypad, Keyboard mappings, Mouse settings, fonts and color settings. Further functions intended to reduce the user's work with host communication are automatic IP address identification when logging in via Intranet, while logging in to the Internet is quickly done by authenticating User ID and password. A total of 11 different languages are supported for the communication with IBM Mainframes. The application handles the conversion to the matching keyboard language automatically as soon as the web server is being accessed. HOBLink J-Term 2.1. is now available as a beta version in German and English including online help. A French version is scheduled for the first half of 1999. HOBLink J-Term provides browser based host access via Internet, Intranet and Extranet via integrated 3270-, 5250- and VT525 emulation. Coupled with the host server software HOBCOM developed by HOB, HOBLink J-Term provides complete data encryption along with system print via World Wide Web. System requirements: Web Server: JVM with JDK V.1.1.; Clients: all browser supporting Java, e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 with RMI.ZIP. Netscape Navigator 4.x. The German IT organization HOB GmbH & Co. KG resident in Zirndorf was founded in 1964.
